National Apprenticeship Week celebrated by Sandwell Academy students

Fri, 26 Feb 2021

National Apprenticeship Week took place on 8 - 14 February. The annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships showcased the amazing work being done by employers and apprentices across the country.

The Careers Team at Sandwell Academy took this opportunity to provide students in all year groups vital information about the different types of apprenticeships, the pros and cons of degree apprenticeships vs going to university and where students can find apprenticeship roles and vacancies. Students were sent an information sheet with links to videos, websites and also some events and webinars that were taking place about apprenticeships from companies such as Ernst & Young (EY), Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Amazing Apprenticeships. In conjunction with this, students were also sent an activity sheet which they could work through to help them find out more and expand their knowledge. Students who completed and submitted their worksheets were entered into a prize draw, and we had four students who won and will be sent a goody bag prize. One student in particular, Harpreet Sahota in Year 8, went above and beyond by doing extra research and finding out what apprenticeships link to every subject she studies! Harpreet will be sent a special prize for the huge effort she went to to find out about apprenticeships and to learn about all the different types you can do when you leave school or college. Well done Harpreet and all the students who took part!
