Ofsted Inspection

An 'Outstanding' Hat Trick for Sandwell Academy

Sandwell Academy is celebrating once again after being graded as 'Outstanding' in their most recent Ofsted inspection.

This is the third time in a row the Academy has achieved Ofsted's highest rating of 'Outstanding'. The Academy has now been rated as outstanding for six years after first achieving this in 2011, again in 2014 and now in 2017.

The results from the most recent inspection highlight the consistent level of excellence that the Academy delivers in all areas. The staff, students, parents and Governors are delighted to receive another glowing report acknowledging the quality of educational provision on offer.

The inspection, a rigorous one day review; included meetings with the Senior Leadership team and other key staff; an analysis of published data and current progress of students; behaviour of students, learning and teaching observations, meetings with students from all years and a scrutiny of safeguarding procedures.

Ofsted has described the leadership at the Academy as "Assured, confident and responsive" and said "There is absolutely no complacency here". The letter goes on to praise the Academy's stance on allowing students to enter GCSE exams early and comments that the Academy has "prioritised pupils' individual success and achievement over whole school league tables".

Simon Topper, Head at Sandwell Academy said: "I am incredibly proud of the achievements of students at Sandwell Academy and delighted that everyone's hard work and efforts have been recognised in such a positive report once again".

He added: "We have an educational philosophy here that is proving to be highly successful across our collaborative of schools and I am so pleased that this Academy is demonstrating a sustained ability to make a real difference to the lives of young people in Sandwell".

Councillor Hackett congratulated the school on their achievement. He said: "The Academy have obviously demonstrated to Ofsted that the school achieves and maintains such high standards.

"I want to say well done to the staff, children, parents and carers who have all contributed to the Academy achieving Ofsted's highest rating of 'Outstanding'."
