Message from The Head
It is gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Sandwell Academy which provides a high quality education for children between 11 – 18 years of age from across the borough of Sandwell.
In September 2006, Sandwell Academy opened its doors for the first time with an intake of 330 students. We now have a full complement of 900 students in years 7 – 11 and 330 students in our Sixth Form.
The Academy is sponsored by Thomas Telford School, The Mercers’ Company of London, HSBC Education Trust, West Bromwich Albion Football Club and Tarmac Group Ltd.
The Sponsors support and challenge the leadership team at the Academy to ensure that a great education is provided for all students, whatever their ability.
Students join an Academy which has excellent facilities. It is furnished to a high standard with the most modern and up to date equipment in all areas, especially within Sports, Business and Information Communication Technology (ICT). The recent completion of a new building to house additional state of the art gym facilities and classrooms has further added to students’ experience at the Academy.
Students benefit from an exciting, challenging and creative educational experience. All students are motivated, encouraged and stretched to achieve consistently high standards. Expectations are high; attendance is excellent at 96%, punctuality exceeds 99% and our students are well behaved, well-mannered and keen to do their best.
The majority of students at the Academy regularly participate in a flourishing and varied programme of extracurricular activities and many students take part in our extended day to develop their interests and learn new skills.
Our recent, and first set of GCSE results provides strong evidence that we help students to maximise their potential. 73% of students achieved 5 A* - C grades with English and Maths (the highest ever recorded in the borough of Sandwell), 99% achieved 5 A* - C grades and 100% of students achieved 5 A* - G grades.
Student success continues at A-Level with students achieving an average UCAS points score of 361 per student and 90% of students progressed to university. The remaining 10% of students entered the Labour Market or started an apprenticeship.
My aim, and the aim of staff at Sandwell Academy is for your child to come home each day, feeling happy, fulfilled and having made progress. The caring environment and high levels of pastoral support help us in the pursuit of a bully free school.
I am delighted with the progress made in our first 5 years and our OFSTED inspection and outcomes confirm my belief that Sandwell Academy has already established itself as a first rate school. I look forward to working in partnership with you to support your child to gain the most from their time at Sandwell Academy so they leave as responsible, caring individuals who are well prepared for their next step in life.
