Sixth Form Record Breakers
There is once again much cause for celebration at Sandwell Academy after Sixth Form students achieved their best ever set of A Level examination results, surpassing previous impressive records. An outstanding performance has resulted in a highest ever UCAS points score per student of 423 UCAS points which is equivalent to well over 4 grade Bs per student. This included an amazing 87 (14%) A* grades from across a range of academic and vocational subjects.
Sandwell Academy has consistently led the way in Sixth Form performance in the Borough since it opened in 2006 and this year’s results continue to set new records.
All students should be rightly proud of their achievements but amongst the stand out performances were:
Suet Au who achieved straight A grades in English, Maths, History and Geography and will be going on to study a degree in Management at Warwick University.
Anisah Ali will be going on to study Medicine at the University of Birmingham after achieving an excellent set of results. Joining her at the University of Birmingham and studying Dentistry will be Har-Amrit Singh, who achieved an A* grade in Maths, an A in Chemistry, a B in Biology and a C in Physics. Maddison Smith will be starting a higher apprenticeship with Price Waterhouse Coopers after a gruelling selection process.
Rianna Glasgow was thrilled with her results which enabled her to achieve a much sought after apprenticeship with the BBC in London.
Sandwell Academy’s specialisms of Sport and Business continue to lead the way with 36 A* grades being achieved in Business as well as 36 Distinction* in BTEC Sport. Notable performers included Herondeep Dhanda, Arjun Sandhu and Manvir Mann all scoring 550 UCAS points or more, achieving A*s in a range of academic and vocational courses. Other high achieving students included Sarah Garratt, Gurpreet Samra, Jasmin Sandhu and Nikki-Leigh Tomlinson.
Over 84% of grades across the Academy were at Grade C or better, with 58% at Grade B or better and 29% of the grades achieved were either A or A*, all records for the Academy.
Simon Topper, Head of the Academy, commented: ‘’I am both thrilled and delighted at the outcomes achieved this year by our sixth form students and send my warmest congratulations to them all.
