Academy Teacher Completes London Marathon

Fri, 18 May 2018

On 22 of April Mr Taaffe took part in the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon. Mr Taaffe was running for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT), a charity that provides support to young people with cancer. For every young person with cancer that the charity can reach and support, there is another person that they cannot reach. The money raised will go towards funding for specialist TCT wards and nurses.

A number of fundraising events took place outside of the Academy, including a charity curry night as well as a live music night. Earlier in the year, Sandwell Academy Staff took on Sixth Form students in a football match, which was a hard fought 2-2 draw. The efforts of staff and students raised £200 for the charity. A grand total of £2,535 was raised for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The 2018 London Marathon was the hottest ever on record with temperatures reaching a maximum of 24 degrees Celsius. This made running conditions extremely difficult for all participants after training in such tough and different conditions over the winter. However, Mr Taaffe managed to make it round the course in just over four hours for his first ever marathon.

Mr Taaffe would like to thank everybody who has supported his fundraising.
