GCE Exam Results 2011 - Sandwell Academy
Sandwell Academy's fourth set of Sixth Form students received their A Level results today and collectively achieved a fantastic average of 361 UCAS points (878 QCA points). Students at the Academy typically study four subjects and these totals are equivalent to an average of two Bs and two Cs per student.
Sandwell Academy has led the way in Sixth Form performance in the Borough since it opened in 2006 and this year's results have raised standards even further. The vast majority of the students will use their qualifications to take up under-graduate places at universities across the country.
The highest grades were spread across the whole curriculum but the Academy particularly excels in its specialisms of Sport and Business Enterprise. In Business, 19 students achieved an A* grade in GCE and Applied GCE courses. In BTEC Sport 75% of the grades achieved were at Distinction level. A* grades were also achieved this year in Maths, Geography and English.
One of the most outstanding performers was Edward Gomez, achieving 510 UCAS points including A* in Maths and As in Chemistry and Physics as well as qualifications in ICT and General Studies.
Another student, Har-Rachan Ubhi achieved an amazing 530 UCAS points including an A* in Business and A in ICT and B grades in Maths and Media as well as the ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness.
Rosie Garnczarek achieved a Double Distinction in the extremely high achieving BTEC Performing Arts course and added a further A grade in Business and a C grade in ICT and also achieved 510 UCAS points.
Other students achieving 500 or more UCAS points included Ayesha Ravenscroft - A* in Geography, A in Psychology, B in Religious Studies and History and C in English. Mandeep Singh achieved an A in Maths and Punjabi and B grades in Physics and Business.
Over 75% of grades across the Academy were at Grade C or better and a 99% pass rate (E or better) was achieved across the year group.
