Rodney Hughes - Deputy Head - Design Technology
Rod Hughes joined Sandwell Academy in April 2009. He joins the Academy with a wealth of experience having worked in a variety of different schools. Most recently, he was Deputy Headteacher at Blake Valley Technology College in Staffordshire. During his time at Blake Valley, Mr Hughes led Learning & Teaching, School Self Evaluation and Development planning; Assessment for Learning and line managed Design & Technology, ICT and Music departments as well as Data and Examinations. He also completed a term as Acting Headteacher.

Mr Hughes is married with two young daughters.

• Management and presentation of Academy student data (Years 7 – 11)
• DCSF Returns / School Audits
• Management of Facility SERCO Contract and its effectiveness.
• Staff Development – including Performance Management, Induction NQT’s, Training Days
• Staff Duties
• Staff Absences Cover
• Staff Attendance (CTJ)
• Weekly Staff Briefing
• Academy Development Plan
• Staff Portfolio
• Self Evaluation strategy (MMP)
• End of Term arrangements
• Overall responsibility for online curriculum and standards (Design Technology and Art, Foreign Languages)
