Sandwell Academy supporting frontline workers

Mon, 04 May 2020

Responding to the needs of frontline workers the Design Technology Department at Sandwell Academy have joined many other technology departments across the country in making protect visors.

Coordinated and inspired by Pamela James, subject leader, the team came together in order to manufacture 2500 visors across a number of days. This has been made possible by the manufacturing capacity of our two laser cutters which have steadily been cutting the polypropylene straps required.

To make sure that these visors were as safe as possible social distancing, hygiene and strict cleaning measures were observed by the team at all times.

These visors have subsequently been delivered to a range of institutions including Queen Elizabeth Hospital, The Crime Prevention Agency, dentists, a variety of care homes and doctors surgeries.

The Academy have received an array of kind words and messages and some organisations have done shout outs to Sandwell Academy through social media from their places of work. It’s been a fantastic response and we feel privileged to have been able to help in a small way.
